Liposuction

Mommy Makeover LiposuctionLiposuction surgery is another key component of the mommy makeover package. Liposuction surgery is recommended for patients who are not more than 25 pounds over their weight limit. For a mommy makeover, surgeons advise moms to wait on these procedures until after they have achieved their desired weight through dieting and exercise. Liposuction can target certain fat areas of your body or can be used as an overall body contouring procedure in which the surgeon removes fat from multiple areas.

Types of Liposuction

There are various types of liposuction surgeries and they all depend on the type of technique used by the surgeon. Laser liposuction is a type of procedure that uses lasers to melt fat under the skin and it is best for detailed surgeries on small areas. It is usually used for removing the infamous double chin and other fatty areas on the face. Tumescent liposuction uses a special substance (a mix of lidocaine and epinephrine) that the surgeon injects in fatty areas to make them more firm and swollen. This technique is widely used in combination with tummy tucks or in the case of full body procedures – the body contouring tumescent lipo. The other types of liposuction procedure are water-assisted liposuction and ultrasonic assisted liposuction depending on the technique the surgeon uses to remove fat from targeted areas.

Recovery Process

The recovery process after liposuction surgery varies from shorter for targeted liposuction to the longest recovery time of full body liposuction. You will be given pain medication, and during the first week you will experience some bruising and swelling. You will be able to exercise about three to four weeks after your surgery, but consult with your surgeon on the type of exercise you should start with. Surgeons recommend you stop smoking and reduce alcohol intake as both of these could slow your recovery process.
