Breast augmentation used to be the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery in the United States. However in recent times, liposuction surgery has taken first place.
Breast enhancement and breast lift surgery are the key parts of the mommy makeover package. Breast augmentation surgery uses one of two types of implants: saline breast implants or silicone breast implants (approved by the FDA in 2006). Your plastic surgeon should take the time to go over the advantages of each of these types based on your needs.
The surgical technique has evolved over the past few years. Nowadays breast surgery incisions can be made in the crease under the breasts (called infra-mammary), around the nipple (areolar), and even in the underarms (transaxillary). The latest technique is called TUBA (stands for trans-umbilical augmentation) in which the surgeon makes an incision in your navel (belly button) and places the implant via the guidance of an endoscope.
Breast lift surgery is specifically targeted at fighting the sag that occurs after pregnancy and breastfeeding. The breasts are re-contoured and lifted giving them a firm and youthful look. The two procedures can be combined for the best results for your look.
Get ready for the surgery
Surgeons advise women not to take aspirin or other anti–inflammatory drugs for several weeks prior to the surgery as these drugs have blood thinning properties. They also urge smoking patients to stop smoking at least two weeks prior to the surgery. Make sure you have made arrangements for somebody to be with you after your surgery to drive you home or to your hotel.
Recovery
Within a maximum of 72 hours after your surgery, you will recover from the anesthesia and surgery effects. However your full recovery may talk a few weeks, during which you might still experience minor swelling and soreness. Your recovery varies based on the type of procedure you undergo.
